The Last Minute IELTS course aims to provide students with knowledge and practical skills required to successfully prepare to take the IELTS test.
This course focuses on the different question types in the exam and skills necessary to achieve the students’ preferred band score.
The course content is organised as the test is delivered, into the four main skill areas: Listening, Reading Writing and Speaking. Each section focuses on test-taking skills, strategies and techniques. A course book is provided in the delivery of the course. The course is 4 hours duration.
Understand the format of the IELTS exam.
Provide ‘on the day’ tips to help students feel relaxed and confident before the exam. Use strategies to help students actively listen and understand the Listening section of the exam. Provide strategies to facilitate students time management skills in the Reading section of the exam.
Become accustomed to the different types of reading and listening questions. And know what is required for each question. Show students the formats and techniques required in both the writing tests. Explain the format and instructions of the Speaking test. Practice speaking techniques for the Speaking section of the exam.
The students follow the instructor through the course book. There is no final exam for this course. The Instructor can assess students’ strengths and weaknesses through the practice tests provided in the course book.
Final assessment is based on written examinations set by International English Language Testing System (UK).
Internal assessments include Mock Examinations and practice questions given by IELTS Instructors
Yvonne van Zyl is an English and Academic Instructor. She has more than 30 years’ experience in the field of training and development. Her recent training activities include teaching, leading and guiding students and working individuals towards an acceptable IELTS score with the IDP. Yvonne has been teaching English as a foreign language and Business for most of her academic career. She has extensive experience in the classroom teaching English as a second language and teaching any other business related unit in the English language.
